This kitchen renovation in Wilmslow was a substantial transformation focused on opening up a dark, tired and poorly functioning space. The clients wanted a complete layout change, with walls removed to create a brighter, more practical kitchen that better suited daily life.
Storage, light and functionality were central to the brief. The existing kitchen lacked useful storage, the room felt dark, and the sub-floor had structural issues that made the space feel uneven and unstable. A new island was introduced to improve workflow and create a more usable focal point within the kitchen.
The project included significant building and preparation works as well as the full kitchen installation. From relocating the boiler and altering openings to installing a roof window, reinforcing the sub-floor and fitting a painted Neves kitchen with quartz worktops, the renovation was designed to deliver a complete room transformation rather than a simple kitchen replacement.
The project was completed over 4 weeks and involved careful coordination of building work, services, preparation and installation. Early works included relocating the boiler into the garage, capping the existing gas hob, removing brick walls, adjusting floor levels near the back door and garage access, and removing and bricking up an existing window.
Electrical first-fix works were carried out in the first week, with the electrician returning later in the project for second-fix connections. Plastering was completed during the second week, while the wider installation team handled room preparation, spray painting, flooring preparation, kitchen fitting, doors, skirting, plumbing and final finishing.
One of the main challenges was the bouncing floor. Once opened up, the issue was traced to a concrete sub-floor that had sunk on a slant. This was resolved by installing battens of varying thicknesses and new Caber floor boards, creating a level and solid base for the new kitchen and flooring.
Throughout the process, the clients made a few design decisions and amendments, which were accommodated as part of the managed project journey. Visits to the Wilmslow showroom, sample sourcing and clear communication helped the clients make confident choices and achieve the finished result they wanted.
